The Brooks Band is a wearable wellness tool that provides gentle, private haptic feedback for voice volume awareness โ giving individuals the ability to self-regulate without constant reminders from others.
The student wears a Samsung Galaxy Watch. The watch quietly observes. The team gets the data they need โ without interrupting the student's day.
The watch detects the wearer's own voice volume using on-device sound level measurement. When volume exceeds the wearer's personal range, a gentle vibration provides a private cue that only they can feel.
No audio is ever recorded, stored, or transmitted. The watch measures sound level only โ like a sound level meter on the wrist. All processing happens on the device. Only wellness observations leave the watch.
The device learns each wearer's own voice and personal range. Thresholds adjust to the individual โ not a one-size-fits-all number. The device distinguishes the wearer's voice from background sound.
Teachers, therapists, and families each receive the observation data relevant to their role. Event counts, timestamps, durations, and acoustic measurements โ everything needed for documentation.
Runs on Samsung Galaxy Watch in freestanding mode โ no paired phone needed. Managed and secured through enterprise device management. Designed for all-day wear in a school environment.
No public alerts. No visible signals to classmates. No adult having to say "use your inside voice" for the hundredth time. Just a quiet, private tap on the wrist that says: "hey, check your volume."
Continuous observation data replaces manual tally sheets and memory-based documentation. Voice volume events, sustained engagement periods, and timestamps โ all collected automatically.
Voice volume data, vocalization counts, and return-to-range measurements collected continuously during the school day โ not just during therapy sessions.
Independent wellness observations across multiple streams โ supporting sensory and environmental documentation with continuous data instead of periodic in-room observation.
A plain-language daily summary of your child's day. No technical data โ just a warm, honest picture of how things went and what's getting better.

"Every child deserves to learn self-awareness โ not be told to be quiet."

What is collected: Voice volume level (dB), ambient sound level (dB), event timestamps, event durations, and wellness observation labels. No audio recordings. No speech content. No words or conversation. No photographs. No location data in school deployment. All data linked to a de-identified code โ never a student name.
On-device processing: All raw sensor signals are processed on the watch and immediately destroyed. A 10-second rolling audio buffer continuously overwrites. No raw data is stored on the device or transmitted. Only derived observations leave the device.
Data transmission and storage: Observation data syncs via encrypted connection at end of school day on school WiFi only. Encrypted in transit (TLS 1.3) and at rest (AES-256). No data transmitted to any cloud service, third party, or external server outside the school's platform instance.
Data retention: Data retained for the current IEP cycle (typically one academic year) and automatically purged at end of retention period. Data can be deleted at any time by the authorized adult (parent/guardian) or school administrator.

All observation data is classified as an education record under FERPA (20 U.S.C. ยง 1232g) when used in a school setting. The school district is the data controller. Sensory Bridges operates as a "school official" under a FERPA-compliant Data Processing Agreement (DPA) with the district. Parents and eligible students retain all FERPA rights including the right to inspect, review, request amendment, and request deletion of all observation data. No data is disclosed to any third party without prior written parent consent or an applicable FERPA exception.
Under COPPA's school exception (15 U.S.C. ยงยง 6501โ6506), the school may consent on behalf of the parent for collection of student data for educational purposes only. No data collected under the school exception is used for any commercial purpose. No data is shared with third parties for non-educational purposes. No persistent identifiers are collected. Parents retain the right to review, request deletion of, and refuse further collection of their child's data at any time.
Any sensor stream can be independently disabled at any time by the authorized adult (parent, guardian, or school administrator). The device can be completely deactivated at any time. All data collection ceases immediately upon deactivation. Previously collected data can be deleted upon request. Contact: privacy@sensorybridges.com
